Amazon’s Project Kuiper: Providing Internet from Space

Amazon's most ambitious project Kuiper aims to launch thousands of satellites into earth's lower orbit which will provide high speed internet throughout countries, especially in remote and rural areas. But you all will have a question in mind which is " Isn't Space X (Star-link) doing the same thing? ". The answer is simple, YES project Kuiper aims to provide internet at affordable prices for a common man.

When is going to be Available?

As of now, Amazon has just launched its two prototype satellites (KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2) in October of 2023. The full deployment is expected to be by the year of 2029. The full deployment will consist of over 3200 satellites.

Does Amazon have any partners in this project?

Yes, Amazon has partnership with Blue Origin, ULA, Arianespace, MediaTek.

How will the project benefit the society?

Over 2.5 Billion people worldwide don't have access to the internet. It will support hospitals, schools and other businesses in under-developed areas. Another major advantage is communication would not be hindered in disaster hit regions or places with no cable infrastructure.

Amazon has got approval from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy 3236 satellites by July of 2029.

Cost - Amazon has committed around $10 billion to this project.

My Takeaway

This project excites me as it will bring high speed internet to the world without the need of cables or wires for an affordable price to the common man. As a resident of India, i feel this would change the lives of many who live in the rural areas.
